Located in Southwest Florida on the Gulf of Mexico, in between Ft. Myers and Tampa,
Venice is one of the most unique and comfortable beach cities. With its sandy white
beaches against the blue-green ocean, its parks throughout
the city, and its undeniable history, Venice is unique in and of itself.
Venice Florida Real Estate began in the late 1860’s when 160 acres were available to homesteading families through the Homestead Act. During this time, Robert Roberts was among the first homesteaders. In the mid 1880’s Frank Higel purchased a portion of Roberts holdings. Since Higel’s hometown was Venice, Italy and this new coastal town reminded him so much of home, the name Venice was chosen for their post office. The true Venice Florida Real Estate boom occurred when in 1910 Bertha Palmer Purchased 60,000 acres in Manatee County and established just south of Robert’s Bay the town of Venice where she began to sell lots. In the mid 1920’s, 2,916 acres was purchased by Dr. Fred Albee, whom hired John Nolen to design a city that was envisioned to be called Venice. Before this vision was to occur, The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (BLE) purchased his land, developed the land, and marketed the area. By mid 1926 Venice Florida Real Estate and residential construction was in full swing. Because architectural firm of Walker and Gillette created design requirements that buildings must be in the Northern Italian Renaissance style, the true vision of Venice was set in motion.
